Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/14/2011

Number: 1

This morning 20 docents from the AZ Sonoran Desert Museum and I visited Canelo Marsh in SE AZ. The day was sunny and cool - perfect. We quickly tagged 7 monarchs - most were new, a few weathered. We also found four 5th instar larvae. Then a very weathered female apearred, visiting milkweed and laying eggs. So we have migrators and breeding monarchs in transition at this site. We did not see any new mating.
