Ruby throats are very active along the edge of Cane creek and at my feeder...mostly young birds and females. Along the creek this morning I counted 6 hummers (females and juvenile males) feeding on an orange colored lupine type flower at the edge of my yard. The group arrived perhaps 4 or 5 days ago and has been very active in competing for food at my HB feeder. I think the summer family group has gone south...this new group behaves differently and looks different too. They fly from the shrub trees in my yard to the HB feeder only 20 yards away. I hear them humming and tweeting especially in the a.m. throughout the day until dusk. My earliest sighting at the feeder this morning was at dawn...one bird. Then more came to feed as the light changed.
