Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/12/2011

Number: 200

Hundreds of Monarchs gathered at the Ney Learning Center at Henderson, MN in the walnut and ironwood trees evenings of September 12 and 13th, but disappeared by the morning of the 14th as a record breaking cold front moved through. Note photo #3: a number of the insects were handicapped indicating food shortage during developmental stages. However, TWO larvae were observed yesterday, September 14th, eating on quite dry milkweed plants.
