Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/17/2011

Number: 3

I thought on 9/7 we had seen the last of our hummers, but a few days later a female black chinned hummer has been at the feeders continuously. Today, she was joined by a male and a female ruby throated hummer. Miss black chinned fiercely defended her 2 feeders in the back for hours against the other two. Finally later in the day the male ruby throated hummer took possession. It was fascinating to watch the battle rage on. Miss black chinned tried for awhile to retake her territory, but unsuccessful. However, she and the female ruby throated were then seen sharing the feeder at the front of the house.
