Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/19/2011

Number: 500

September 27
Yesterday (26th) and today they are here in record numbers. This was a mass migration unlike any I have seen in the past. Still had the ones that were here from the 19th and hundreds upon hundreds were in the sky on the 27th! As far as the eye could see in the sky, they were flying. Lasted most of the day, and then by mid afternoon they were gone! I watched them outside for quite some time, and they were literally all around me. Incredible!
Roosted last night (9/26) in the soap berry trees. I would guesstimate hundreds.

September 19
Noticed approx. a dozen monarchs coming to our trees yesterday (9/19). This morning there are many more flying to our soapberry trees. Will continue watching to see if we have a good roost this year!
