We have 7-8 female and juvenile ruby-throated hummingbirds as of this morning. We observe that some with characteristics that are easy to identify have moved on, and new ones arrive with regularity. We have had a juvenile that has many feathers missing (and some new feathers coming in) from about the middle of its abdomen to its feet. From a distance it seems very brown in this area, but through binoculars it is obvious. It is able to feed, fly, and chase away others from "its feeder."
Really curious to know what may have happened to it.
