Between Noon and 12:05 today, I counted 38 monarchs nectaring/flying in our small backyard in Stillwater, OK.

About 25 were nectaring on yellow crownbeard (on 50 to 100 plants)
10 were nectaring on tropical milkweed (on 6 plants)

3 were nectaring on Lantana camara

3 were in flight from one flower to another

My previous record in 8 years at this location was 11 monarchs (set yesterday). Why so many this year? Perhaps due to the fact that much of the surrounding prairie in KS, MO, and OK is brown due to the drought, and probably has little blooming. I have the same number of flowers as usual, as I've watered my backyard quite a bit.
