Signs of Fall

Date: 09/19/2011

Number: 1

There was one flicker eating bugs from the ground all day yesterday (am posting 9-20). Also two Jays were at the birdbath. We have a pair of chickadees all year round that raised their young here, probably because we're adjacent to a wooded area. However there were several more flocking in the Willow trees on our property and coming to the safflower feeder. Also a group of about 10 robins were sighted feeding on our lawn. We did have rain the night before. Some leaves from the cottonwood are just beginning to turn color with a few falling to the ground. This is usually an 'all fall' activity for our over a 100 year old cottonwoods. Usually the last of them fall by November. We'll see how long it takes. The poison ivy & sumac leaves are just beginning to turn color on the fringes of the leaves. Today not much activity because we're heaving howling easterly winds.
