Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/28/2011

Number: 60

We were excited to see so many monarchs in our yard and hadn't noticed this phenomenon for many years. I did notice the butterflies a few nights earlier, but there were a lot less of them. The 28th was the first evening we noticed so many butterflies in the trees. There were at least a dozen butterflies clustered on each branch and we saw them on at least five branches. We are surrounded by farm fields; corn, beans and alfalfa.
