This afternoon I was delighted to see a female Monarch laying eggs on the milkweeds in my back yard. I immediately searched all of them and discovered 10 cats and about 22 eggs. I had seen a female and a male at different times in the last several days, but they appeared to be nectaring only. Last year it was Oct. 15th before the Monarchs got here, so they are almost a month earlier this year. They are so very welcome. My milkweed patch has lady beetles, syrphid fly larva, lots of lacewing eggs and larvae, etc. all helping to get rid of the blasted aphids!
