Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/22/2011

Number: 1

Greetings from Virginia's lovely Eastern Shore! The Monarchs were later coming around this season. Did not observe any until about 3 weeks ago, but now I have enjoyed frequent visits to my yard. I have scarlet milkweed, butterfly weed and common milkweed for egg laying, and still have lots of lantana, butterfly bush, and new goldenrod for nectaring. I released 11 adults this week, and have more in the chrysalis stage as well as caterpillars, too! The cool temps and hard rain at the end of last week meant I kept 6 adults inside the house most of the weekend! Our early season sightings around Easter last spring were a "tease" for us, because we had such a long wait for the next sightings. We are off and running now! Yay!
