Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/22/2011

Number: 1

I was able to save 8 caterpillars from at least >50 individuals. It is not known what killed them. No decaying remnants or even stains under the leaves were noted. They just vanished, so that leaves birds. From now on, everyone comes inside the house at 1.5mm!

Ditto for the Cloudless Giant Sulphur caterpillars on the senna.

What is surprising is the durability (heat tolerance) of the latest progeny. And I thought THAT would likely kill them off, like last year.
