Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/20/2011

Number: 30

My Environmental Science class had been waiting for the arrival, so on Tuesday we went out to observe any Monarchs we might find on our natural wildflower patch near the school. We could not count the total number seen, they were everywhere! We captured and released 30, making careful note to compare the number of males to females. (22 males/8 females). We saw new wings mixed with old, worn wings. The wildflowers have been a big attraction this year, with the sky clear and temperatures in the upper 70s. We plan to observe again on Friday to see if the numbers have increased or decreased.
