Hummingbird Sighting (Adult Male)

Date: 09/24/2011

Number: 10

We still have 8-10 hummingbirds at our feeders. These hummies seem to be "permanent" residents -- until it gets cold, which it hardly ever does! There are still 3-4 males among them, and some young'uns, too. They go through their food pretty steadily.

It is sooo much fun to watch them. They swoop and swirl around us when we are outdoors in their area. There is no fear on their part. Sometimes as they chase each other around, they zoom past so close to you where you sit on the porch that you feel the air waves they generate, and of course you hear the intense 'humming' sound for which they are famed.

It is a joy to know these ruby throat hummies!
