While I can't pinpoint the exact day, due to the fact that I had to "journey North" for a few days, on 09/14/11 we had an honest estimate of approx. thirty hummingbirds. Since arriving back from my trip on Tuesday, 09/20/11, I have observed a precipitous drop-off in the volume of hummingbird traffic at our feeders. We went from a very realistic count of at least thirty-if not more, to no more than six at any given time as of Tuesday, 09/20/11. Today is Sunday, 09/25/11 and my wife says she is seeing no more than three to five at any given time. I am currently in Kansas City (further North) and have witnessed several single stragglers buzzing my parents flowers today.
