Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/25/2011

Number: 1

There is only 1 juvenile female sighting now. Since there are 3 feeders I don't see her all the time, but we had alternating days of 3 heavy all day rains last week when there were no sightings. I worried that something might have happened to them. Do they fly ahead of heavy downpours to safety and then return? During the days of the rains one did not come back. I know that because there is no more chasing going on. Just one female juvenile periodically. I am leaving the feeders up until 2 weeks after no more sightings as suggested. I had always taken them down on the 1st of October to encourage the birds to leave, not thinking about the transients. I wonder if this is a more northern migrant and my two female babies have gone.
The adult male used to come to the window when I wore my red shirt. I have a shiny green one now and this juvenile female looks in at me nearly every time at the feeder. My computer is within 3 feet of the feeder and they are used to me being here, as well as my cat sitting on the desk. The window is open, weather providing, with no screen but the cat ignored them and they him the same.
