Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/24/2011

Number: 1

I was working in our school's butterfly garden weeding and deadheading flowers, and to my surprise I found a one inch Monarch larva on some milkweed. We have been watching for Monarchs, but are not seeing any activity yet.
We have watered the garden all summer, and it is a butterfly oasis. The garden is ready, with milkweed and nectar plants. In the past two weeks, we have had the Gulf and Variegated Fritillary species laying eggs on the passion vines. Hope we see the Monarchs soon.
