Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/25/2011

Number: 1

Still have one female, one we can clearly recognize because she is the only hummie that has ever consistantly perched on top of the shephards hooks we suspend the feeders from. Never had a bird do that before. It is as if she sits up there, guarding her territory. It was hot and muggy here on the South Shore of Long Island today. Almost like early August. Yet the trees around Carmens River and Wertheim Federal Wildlife Refuge ( our neighbors) have begun to show their fall colors, if ever lightly. I cleaned and refilled the feeders, but I suspect the little percher will be gone by week's end.
