Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/26/2011

Number: 1

Many, many monarchs on my butterfly bushes today. I have also seen many the last few days also.

I didn't sit there and watch continuously. I'm tagging monarchs for Monarch Watch, and I watch my butterfly bushes from the house intermittently while I go about my day. I would estimate I saw a total of 40 to 50 all afternoon. I would see 5 to 7 at a time on the bush. We've had a lot of rain the last few weeks so I don't know if they are staying around longer because of the rain and that's why I'm seeing so many. This is only my second year tagging, but I didn't see that many last year. I was only able to tag 50 last year. This year I've tagged 100 so far and could tag more, but I've run out of tags.
