This is my first season of hummer watching. I bought the commercial food but when I read about the problematic red dye, I decided today to change to sugar water. And was I rewarded! When I went outside to hang up the feeder with the new concoction, a little bird came right up and fed about 3 inches away from my hand. I didn't dare breathe. It was so thrilling. I saw three birdies zooming around it later on. I think they might even like it better as they fed up until dusk, later than with the red stuff.
