The numbers of migrating monarch butterflies have declined considerably in the last few days. Today, during an hour in the morning at Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, 10 monarchs were observed nectaring on the sunflowers. The day was partly cloudy, the temperature was in the the high 50s, and a light breeze was blowing from the northwest.
