Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/26/2011

Number: 9

I have seen only single monarchs on any day all summer but for one observation with 2 butterflies in sight a few days ago. Today I observed my first monarch of the day flying SW at 0901 hrs and at 1.5 m elevation above ground. During the next 5.5 hours I observed a total of 9 monarchs (not much of a high count for the season!!). The highest rate of observation was between 1230 - 1330 hours with 4 sightings. After 1430 a freshening W wind stopped monarch flight (or perhaps the supply of monarchs was exhausted for the day. NO monarchs observed 27 SEP 2011
