Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/28/2011

Number: 40

The Monarchs have been here everyday with roosts at night. Saturday was a peak day with upwards to 70 Monarchs nectaring mid afternoon. Sunday through Tuesday, the winds were from the north and the numbers diminished some. Today, the winds have been from the southwest, and the Monarchs have seemed to "backup" into the yard. This evening, I counted at least 40 nectaring. It's hard to get a good count as they move. While I was mowing, about a dozen swirled up into the air from a Vitex bush. This is my favorite sight--dancing butterflies!
