This one knocked my socks off! In the middle of an all-day rain, I saw a female monarch fly toward a purple butterfly bush while I was at National Zoo. I'd been sitting down at the time, and just happened to momentarily look in that direction when I saw her sail over the path from where she'd been sheltering, toward the dripping-wet flowers. I grabbed my things as quickly as I could and ran over, finding her rather easily much to my relief. She was acting as if it weren't raining at all (the rain was light-to-moderate but still), busily going between two clusters of violet blooms, water collecting on her antennae. WOW! Even got a nice photo which wasn't too dark. Again, WOW!
