Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/02/2011

Number: 1

The migration through Dallas has definitely kicked up a notch today. There were approx. 20 Monarch's at the same time in the garden today, nectaring on Frostweed, Mexican Sunflower, and to a lesser extent Gregg's Mistflower. It's hard to count them all since the move around so much and several chase eachother all around. I also observed several flying through the yard on the way South without stopping or seeing the garden. I know it's not peak Migration yet here because the Frostweed is not in full bloom quote yet. Last year, about Oct 15th plus or minus a few days, we could count almost 40 Monarchs in the garden at the same time, virtually all on the Frostweed. So we're expecting more. I have several caterpillars in cocoon stage and many more little ones chomping away on the milkweed.
