Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/01/2011

Number: 50

Saw 50 monarchs per hour in Cape May, both on the beach & in down for the October fest. Were the monarchs inspired by the um pa pah band? I think not, nonetheless they kept flying.

Best part of the day was at the Cape May Nature Center on Delaware Avenue. Overhead 3 women (presumably a mother, daughter & granddaughter from PA) on their way to see monarch tagging. I told them I think it's a great project to watch.

I asked the mother if they had a good summer in their garden, she said yes, they had lots of monarchs & her daughter brought many inside in advance of Hurricane Irene, then released them after the storm left. I say Hurrah to that kid! Can she be the next Jane Goodall?
