Earlier in the week we saw monarch wings, no bodies. Today it became obvious our source of worry. A pregnant mantis had taken up residence in our butterfly bush. Hidden at the top, she was picking off monarchs. I saw her at breakfast moving so fast the bush was shaking. I got a tupperware container & stsurdy piece of cardboard to relocate her to a Joe Pye plant in the front yard. She didn't stay long, but I did she her big belly. I'll look our for more cocoons.
I felt good that several monarchs visited & left the garden alive, flying southwest.
