Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/03/2011

Number: 100

We saw hundreds of butterflies on the playground from about 8:00 Am through our recess. We could see them through the window in our classroom, that's where we observed them for most of the day.

The water sprinklers on our new playground and there are several flower bushes across the parking lot from our school is what we figured attracted them. We were surprised they hung around so long, it was such a beautiful sight. The children noticed right away through our window that something unusual was going on outside on the playground. It is so dry around here that the puddles from the water sprinklers was probably the only water they had seen for no telling how long. There are still a few lingering around here but for the rest they seemed to have completely passed through.
