Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 10/03/2011

Number: 3

The nights are frigid with temps in the 40's. I take the nectar in and place it in the warm laundry room so it is tepid for the hummers first thing in morning, but it doesn't stay that way for long as the day's are very cold. The smallest female remains the sentry, perched on a tree near the feeder and chasing the other hummingbirds away at first sight of an intruder. This is the first time in ten years, I've observed hummingbirds in the area in October. Usually, they are absent by mid-September.
