A beautiful day created a nice environment for late-season monarchs. At Neal Smith National Wildlife Refuge, 8 monarchs were observed nectaring on purple asters--the main attraction at this time of year. Back home in our butterfly garden in Altoona, 7 monarchs were seen on purple asters earlier in the day.
