This sighting took place about 4 miles north of Sonora off Hwy 277. While sitting at a water tank near sundown, I counted over 200 monarchs arriving in about 5 minutes, however there were more. The monarchs began roosting in a large nearby oak tree. I have been seeing around 30-50 monarchs each morning while birding the Sutton County cemetery for the last week. I did notice monarchs more common earlier than ususal this year. Seemed like I was seeing 3-5 a day just going about my business in early September, so I would describe a steady increase until Sept., 30th when I believe we may have experienced the peak.
