I reported 2 days ago that every year after my resident crew of hummingbirds leaves, I get 1 or 2 fat females that seem to have come from further north. Last year they last of the later females left 9/22/11. This year, I did not see any, and was about to take down my feeders when one arrived 10/2/11. She was there on the 3rd and 4th, and this morning at dawn I saw her again. They usually come early in the spring before my residents arrive, so I am thinking that they use my feeders as a refreshing point.
