In 10 minutes (from 9:09 to 9:19 a.m.) on Oct.5, 2011 I counted 117 monarchs flying from north to south past the porch of my beach house on Topsail Island, NC. This was a sampling of what appears to be typial daytime migratory activity here at this time of year.
