Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/01/2011

Number: 1

There were an uncountable number of Monarchs resting on the cottonwood trees at our dirt tank Saturday evening 10/1. They spent the day Sunday nectaring on Bacharis, Beebrush and some kind of sunflower and left Monday AM. We are 12 miles south of Alpine and 2 miles west of Hwy 118.

Monday I saw a smaller number – perhaps 20 - on a patch of wildflowers about a mile north of us.

Last year I saw migrating Monarchs at Balmorea State Park. But I’ve never seen them at our house before. I was so excited to see them!
