While striking out on Violet-green Swallow in the Chapel Hill, NC, area, Jeff P and I at least managed to count butterflies in the raw cold and wind today, under partly to mostly cloudy skies, high temp of 62 (normal is 78), and winds 10-20 mph. We did well at Old Hope Valley Road and the powerline crossing it, later in the day, once the skies cleared, and were partly out of the wind. Here is our list for today (October 2) -- with a good variety of grass skippers, essentially all in Chatham County:
