Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/04/2011

Number: 19

It is clear that the majority of Monarchs have left. Today at the same location (East Point Park in Scarborough) where I tagged 63 adults on Sept 30, I was able to tag 19 today. Weather conditions and amount of time invested were about the same on both days. When released, although the wind was blowing towards Lake Ontario, the Monarchs flew back to the nectar sources - almost exclusively asters. None was observed heading out over the Lake. In some cases the wings were noticeably soft and pliable, indicating that they had not been enclosed for very long.
