Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/05/2011

Number: 1

A significant monarch migration reached Long Beach island starting this morning...I counted about 30 over a short walk of 5 minutes from my home to the beach...and at the beach the monarchs were continually flying in to shore from the ocean in small groups. Some were resting on the sand, but most were making way to the dunes and the neighborhood to feed and rest on goldenrod and other flowering plants. Two or three were seen throughout the day on our flowers. They were seen in the air all day and even the mail person commented on their arrival and hopes that they have a safe trip to Mexico! It was a beautiful day made festive by their annual arrival on our barrier island!
