Wind diverted migrating monarchs -- pushed seaward by persistent hard west winds -- are heading back westward, across Long Beach Island (NJ). The numbers are as high as we've seen in many years. Unfortunately, road attrition is high to very high, despite generally light off-season traffic on the main boulevard. Approximately 50 injured or DOA monarchs per road mile, times 18 miles.
