As museum staff members Dan Summers and Bo Baker were conducting a field trip to Grandview Nature Preserve, State Park Drive, Hampton Virginia, they casually observed the number of monarchs reported here. The wind was off the water, so monarchs were flying from the shoreline down State Park Drive heading west. Monarchs were observed intermittently over the time span of 10 am to noon. Trip leaders did not count every monarch, had to concentrate on teaching.
