Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/06/2011

Number: 1

Had monarchs dropping out of the sky into our gardens all day, a steady stream, 3-4 at a time nectaring on butterfly bushes. (Our goldenrod is past bloom now). They are in great shape too! Many stopped for brief periods and then up and away moving south. At one point--around 4 pm I watched three come down at once....Quite unusual to see this here in Jackson. Many painted ladies and a few buckeyes around as well. Lots and lots of dragonflies traveling today too.

Yesterday while working in NYC I kept going out to watch the monarchs as they glided down 1st Ave....Counted 36 in a 10 minute period in the early afternoon....wanted to move my office outside!
