Today our class visit the Beczak Environmental Center in Yonders, NY. As the kids were observing life in the esturary we spotted a Monarch, shortly thereafter we spotted another. Then when we changed places with another group they too spoted two different Monarchs for a total of 4 Monarchs in one hour. They were drinking nector from the bright yellow Goldenrods on the shore (between 10:00 and 11:00 this morning.) We didn't see them all at once but rather one at a time over the course of the hour. One of the kids wondered if it could have been the same one or two Monarch that were just "hanging around." I told them I didn't know (although I think they are in a bit of a hurry to get to Mexico as the nights have been cold here- below 50 degrees F.) Still it was a good question and we are going to investigate it!
