Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/02/2011

Number: 100

This past Sunday, October 2, I stood in my yard most of the day, due to having landscaping work. I estimate 100 Monarchs passed low over my house. Several even flitted down to check out the new plants going in - Flame Acanthus and Butterfly Bush; none stopped, though, due to the constant human activity.

Not a "significant movement" (in the past, I have seen MANY more). I have had 1-2-3 Monarchs at a time over the past two weeks feeding from my native Texas Lantana horrida, in the evenings when I'm home from work to see them. I also see 1-2 now and then, resting on the leaves of my Shumard Red Oak trees.

On Sunday morning, I was thrilled to find five Monarch Caterpillars on my Mexican Butterfly Weed plants - the first Monarch cats I have ever seen in my yard!
