Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 10/07/2011

Number: 500

This is the second Roost at this location this season. Much larger than previous roost. My wife said that Friday afternoon that some areas of the back yard were in shade due to the quantity of Monarch circling overhead. The climate in Odessa caused this roost to stay at least two nights (They are still here 10/8). Forty mile per hour winds from the south blowing NNW. Last night rain and hail. This morning there were Monarchs in pine trees, elms, fruited and fruitless mulberries recovering from the previous night's ordeal.
