Driving east along the Gardiner Expressway, Lake Shore Blvd E, Queen Street East and finally Kingston Road. Sunny day, 18 deg.C, after a day of windy, rainy weather. Monarchs flying mostly below 15m altitude, in loose groups of 2-7 and many solo adventurers. Every single on was heading South-West. Some resting / feeding on hanging flower baskets. It was hard to keep my eyes on the road!...no accidents :)
Was on route to visit my mom in palliative care....helped both of us to bring her news of this wondrous sighting. Monarchs have been in our lives since I knew what a Monarch was. I have raised and released over 200 of these beauties at home and with my high school science students at Centre Wellington Dist. High School in Fergus. How DO they find their winter home in Mexico?!?!
