This little hummer has never left after the summer season, we are feeding it regularly and are looking into insect options as it get very cold, windy and rainy here. We plan to use 2 feeders alternating if they freeze in the night, also using a stronger nectar solution. This is not uncommon in the lower mainland area of Vancouver, our Wild Birdfeed Centers often show pictures other birders have taken of hummingbirds feeding from a snow covered feeder. Othen info we are researching is where is this little hummer going to sleep at night, with the high winds we can sometimes get will a dense fir tree be enough protection for it?
This is a great website we found while doing our research on how to help this little hummer through the winter.
