Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 10/09/2011

Number: 250

I observed 250 monarchs between 1:30 and 4:30 PM flying south over the beach at Harrisville State Park. Some were almost red in color and I estimated that there was 1 male per 12 females as they stopped to nectar on goldenrod and minerals on the shore. It was a very sunny day with the temperature starting out at 52F., in the morning, and climbing to 81F., Wind S-10.
