Monarch Adult Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 10/11/2011

Number: 7

I was sitting outside on a screen porch today. I noticed a few monarchs in the yard at the same time, this is unusual but I continued my project on the porch. An hour or two later I went out into the yard for another purpose, and I saw many monarchs in the yard. I ran back in to get my camera, came out and started snapping. Most monarchs were very unwilling subjects. As soon as I approached they changed locations and positions. One willing subject must have been very hungry. It was particularly interested in some orange and red marigolds, then moved onto Cosmos, mums and asters. There are quite a few food sources in my garden right now, Cosmos, Marigolds, a huge Butterfly bush, wild asters and chrysanthemums. All were of these plants were covered with bees, moths and butterflies. I had seven monarchs over 25 minutes, no buckeyes (which is unusual)or yellow cloudless sulphurs, one or two woodland skippers.
