Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/09/2011

Number: 4

We have a late-blooming plant in our in town flower garden. I observed two Monarchs for several hours on Saturday(10/9) and again on Sunday(10/10) as they drank nectar from the many bright pink flowers. This is very late in the season for us to observe Monarchs. We have been having unusually warm weather (in the high 70s) for the last week. I also watched two more Monarchs on Saturday out in the country (5 miles from our house) while my husband and I were tending to our honey bees. The two in the country were gathering nectar from the few flowers in the yard that had managed to survive the frost a couple of weeks ago. In the picture, note the brilliant yellow tree in full autumn color in the background.
