Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/09/2011

Number: 8

From 9:15 am to 9:35 am at the Virginia Living Museum I was standing near the area where the summer Butterfly House exhibit still stood with high nectar plants such as Zinnias, butterfly bushes, Agastache, Verbena, and Lantana. I counted 7 to 8 monarchs flying around nectaring & basking in the area. I managed to net and tag 3 wild monarchs and recaptured one monarch I had tagged & released the day before. Weather was sunny, in the 60s. This is the most I have seen in the area since the migration began. We still have caterpillars being reared for tagging and release, found in my home garden.
