Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 10/09/2011

Number: 1

We were in Cape May Point State Park yesterday (10/09) from 12:30 to about 3:00. It was around 80 degrees & sunny. We stood on the beach at the Point for half an hour & watched as a single monarch drifted by every few seconds. All the monarchs we saw seemed to be in great shape. We only saw one faded & tattered monarch nectaring on the goldenrod on the beach.

Apparently, we missed the large numbers that left Cape May on 10/6/11 around 8:30 am & crossed the Delaware Bay. I was told that was the day of the orange snow. A count of about 500 a minute, but I neglected to ask for how long.

The tagging demonstration done by the monarch monitoring project was mobbed! They had the biggest crowd I ever saw there. It was great to see that many people interested. Pollination Station from Vincentown, NJ was there. Hi guys!

Everywhere you looked there was always at least one monarch to see.

It was a beautiful day down there yesterday.

Everyday for at least the last 2 weeks, I have counted anywhere from 3 to 6 monarchs at my house(Milltown, NJ) at noon. They are usually on the Butterfly Bush or my Mexican sunflowers & zinnias. They all look to be in great shape as well. No fading or torn wings.
